stella's hat

stella's hat top

in august, i made my first attempt to recreate the hat that my now 94-year old great aunt has been making for 40 years. hers was knit flat and seamed, with a neat flat top. i knit my best approximation in the round out of some gorgeous malabrigo, but was never really happy with the top. well, the other day, i set out to make another, and this time i'm very happy. you'll have to yank it off my cold, dead, head if you want this one, or, you could always knit your own.

pattern: stella's hat (my own) Download PDF file here or here's the ravelry link

it's a simple pattern. you'll only need to know how to knit, purl, k2tog and work in the round.
i hope you like it. mwah!

zomg, that hat is too pretty! thanks a million for the pattern. :D

That hat is super cute. I love the top!

Awesome hat! Thanks for sharing the pattern, I can't wait to cast on!

Great hat! I'll have to add it to my Waiting Works in Progress! :)

I LOVe this hat! I've been wanting a flat top hat for years now.

It's so cute! I'm tempted to start one for myself right now, if I didn't have a 24-page paper to write by Saturday :/

love it! thanks for the pattern. :)

love your hat. I have download the pattern and will add to my knitting list. thanks.

I LOVE Stella's Hat!! I've started it already and am on row 16!! lol I am making it in Classic Merino Wool dark olive (Army green color). I wish I had a brighter color but will certainly be making another for myself later. This one is for my cousin, whose husband is in the military. I'm making him a plain ol' hat from the same wool. I'm sure she'll love the hat as much as I. Thank you SO much for the pattern! You've got a great site!

I love it! Mwah! Thanks for the pattern!

what a beauty....thanks!

It's awesome! So cool that you've recreated it - and thanks for posting the pattern.

Cool spirals!! Thanks for the freebie :)

That's a beautiful hat! Thanks for sharing the pattern. That looks like it would make a great gift for my niece for Christmas this year. I've downloaded it and now I'm off to search the stash. Thanks again.

i love that hat! totally queuing that one up right now :)

So cute! Thanks for sharing after all the work of recreating a beloved pattern. I think part of its charm is that fantastic shade of green...

I just wanted to let you know that I discoverd your blog through your post on Craftster. I love Stella's hat, and I basically am in love with everything you've ever knit.
I'm going to link you on my blog, if that's alright!!

I just linked here from Ravelry after I saw this hat popping up in a bunch of my friends' queues. I love the shape, the color, the family history... awesome work.

So cute! Totally trying to make one this weekend! :)

excellent! i just "faved" it. i have malibrigo in the stash that will be perfect for this hat.

What a great hat!!!

Thank you for the pattern! I need a new hat and one that can be knit of malabrigo! YUM!!!

just a belated thank you for the pattern. i'm on my third hat (using this to practice continental style knitting...) to be gifted to a college student. the other two recipients loved their hats and the way they fit. i used cascade 220 superwash that i had in my stash, for all three. i'm hoping to post a picture of the one i'm working on when i finish. have a happy new year - and thank you again for a gem of a pattern!

Hiya! I LOVE THIS HAT!!!!

I just finished mine, and I LOOOOVE it! Mine turned out a little different (ok, lots different) but it's still awesome! I used size 9 needles (I don't have any size 8s) and Paton's Classic Merino (the store that sells the Malabrigo was closed when the urge to knit struck at 3am).

It turned out really neat! It's kind of drapey, and looks a little like a warm, winter snood. I'm going to make a 2nd one with the stuff the pattern calls for and give it to my mom. Thank you!!!

Great hat! I'm a very hesitant hat person, and want to break into it gently. This will serve my purposes nicely. Thanks!
