a quick one
in a few days off, i've accomplished quite a lot of knitting. i've knit half of a tilted duster, made a little more progress on some of the smaller projects i have going, and i knit a hat.
this one feels like cheating. combining big yarn, big needles and 2 hours of knitting , has given me a very warm hat. i love it and it was so ridiculously simple, i was actually able to write it down!
the yarn is twinkle soft chunky, a super bulky, soft wool. i used us15 (10mm) needles. the pattern is simply 1x1 rib, switched every 6 rows. i didn't include pom-pom making instructions in the pattern, because, even after several years as a knitter, i remain pom-challenged. luckily this yarn fluffs up nicely, and even my sad pom-pom looks kinda cute, i think.
ok, there you go. if you want it, you can download the pattern in pdf. format
HERE
OR
you can find it on ravelry, and download it from that page HERE
if you'd like to make a donation to say thank you for any of the free patterns here, you may use the button below. any donations made to this website will be added to my annual donations to pancreatic cancer research organizations. thank you so much.
I'm also thinking of putting together brochures with some of my hat patterns, including this one. I thought they would be fun to give out at knitting events and shows.
have a great sunday! -melissa

You are the queen of hats, and I love this one.
I'm totally going to make this. Once I purchase some super bulky yarn. Thanks for the pattern!

This is lovely. I think the soft pink works really well with the bulky style. Who knew switching the ribbing would look so cool.

Just another reason to get more Soft CHunky for me. I'm a little sad that it can break so easily though... I'm definitely going to knit one of those.

What a clever stitch pattern! It looks great in that chunky pale pink yarn. And I think your pom is just right!

That is a really nice hat - it looks so warm (and I don't think your pompon looks sad - it looks fluffy and cute!)
Thankyou for the pattern too

Hi! I'm a new reader who's enjoying your blog very much. :)
To join the fan club here, that hat is adorable! I think the funny, chunky nature of the pom pom is perfect. If we knitters wanted perfect, we'd buy it from a machine, right?

It does look really cute! The pompom is just perfect.

GORGEOUS!!!!! I wish I had seen this earlier and could have whipped one up before my trip. Maybe I'll try anyway. I can always double strands something to get the right gauge.
