yawn
aww..
thanks for all the sweater/birthday love. i really enjoyed reading all the comments over what has been a crazy week.
a few days ago, our first niece was born, and that's pretty much all the girlfriend and i can talk about at the moment. yay auntiehood!
i've been inexplicably tired this week, like, totally useless, shouldn't bother leaving the house tired, and i have no idea why. needless to say, there hasn't been all that much knitting around here.
i did manage to squeak out a little shawl though. i knit it through some work meetings and lunch breaks and despite the tiredness, forced myself to knit at least 1 pattern repeat a night.
pattern: flower basket shawl by evelyn clark
yarn: elsebeth lavold silky wool, color 15 (yellow). 1.5 skeins
needles: 4.5 mm
like most of evelyn clark's patterns, the lace pattern was easy to knit, but looks really pretty. i only did 7 repeats to the main chart, because i was planning on wearing this as a scarf. the silky wool is nice, but i'm not totally in love with it, and i can't pinpoint why. i'm usually totally in love with everything. i do love the color though, a really perfect yellow.
in the interest of keeping it "real" at chez knittingschooldropout, a very tired-looking, shawl-in-action shot:
ugh, there's no hiding it.
what's next?
after some serious napping, i'm casting on for the mate to my beloved norwegian snail mitten.
that'll be my bring-everywhere-knit-during-everything project. i also have a new sweater on the needles. more about that one later...

I love your shawl, and your coat too! I think the yellow looks nice against the coat and your skin.
I'm not crazy about Silky Wool either. I like to tug on my yarn when I knit or purl a stitch and this one feels to fragile or something.

That's it. I have GOT to learn intarsia. I love your mitten.

That yellow is beautiful! Nice and bright but still soft enough.... I have to cast on something yellow!

The shawl is so cute! I love that yellow too--nice and mellow. (and again, I show my lameness).
You know, I've had one of those weeks, too, where I'm inexplicably tired and worn out. I blame the weather.

Even if you are tired, you still look wicked cute!

Beautiful shawl! I love the scarf-type use of it.
Get some sleep. :-)

The shawl is lovely, and so practical as a scarf. I have the same feeling about Silky Wool. Like, I know it's a good yarn, and I love the tweedy colors, you can't beat the price, but I'm just not a fan.
Things I *am* a fan of: that mitten! Super pretty.

That snail mitten is too cute! I have yet to venture into colorwork, but that mitt makes me want to!
Congrats on the new baby in the family!

Congrats on becoming an Auntie! It's such an awesome thing and you will enjoy spoiling them for sure :)
I love the shawl! It looks like the perfect size to throw on when you just need to bundle up a little bit.

I've been exhausted the past couple weeks as well! I'm blaming it on the weather change...
I love that yellow! I think I'll try knitting something yellow to lift me out of these doledrums.

Love that shawl!!!
And auntiehood is probably the bestest thing, isn´t it? My niece is 3 years old now and... well, I don´t even have words to describe the feeling (and I´m a wordy gal). It´s just pure, pure love. :)
Enjoy it!

I followed your post from craftster here! The one with the inverse blue and red mittens! Awesome stuff (: What method do you use for making the thumbs. I'm so afraid to snip the yarn for the thumb and there are no tutorials out there ): So now I have one mitten with no thumb. :P

A shawl in a week! That's more like magna cum laude, not knitting dropout ;) Ha haha. It's really cute, and I like how you're wearing it.

Me too! I'm totally wiped for no real reason. What's up with that?
I like your coat though, and your knits =)

Ooo... I like the gritty realism (actually, I think you look nice). The shawl/scarf is lovely, and I adore your snail mitten.

What great idea of making a scarf instead of a the whole shawl. Why didn't I think of that? :) Now off to pull out my shawl patterns. Your scarf is gorgeous and the yellow looks very nice.
